Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of directing traffic to your
website by building your site to suit the algorithms that search engines use to
rank websites.
While that sounds like a complicated process (and it can be), by building a
website that uses appropriate keywords, has direction for robots, and
contains text that's suitable for attracting your market you can increase the
page ranking for your website .
There are some very suspect practices out there that some developers use, to
increase your page ranking. While this may put your site in the top 10
results for a specific search, it won't be for long as the search engines will
black mark you site and it will never be included in their results again. Link
farms can be just as time wasting. While it is true that links that point to
your site are a consideration in page ranking, the importance of these links is
the key factor. If for example if AMP redirects clients to your site via
a link, that link would most likely be of a much greater importance than 100
links from various link farms.
The practice of "$99.00 for over 1000 search engines submissions" is also
not a great use of your marketing budget. There are a handful of search engines
that are used for over 99% of all searches so submitting your site to a
search engine that is run by a partime student, is of no use to you at all.
The key to SEO is to have a well built site, that addresses your market, has an
apt description and uses well researched keywords. While there is no doubt that
Search Engine Optimisation is crucial in the success of any website, it is our
opinion that too many business rely too heavily on search engine placement. The
same principles of business still apply. By creating a reliable, easy to
use site that offers prompt response times, fast shipping and secure payment
systems, you can assure that your repeat business percentage is high.
And word of mouth is still a fantastic promotional tool that costs nothing
at all.
